Therapy for Individuals
Therapy that is personalized for you

We all experience problems, symptoms and events uniquely, and we require different understandings, approaches, strategies, and solutions.

I support clients with a range of concerns including anxiety, depression, trauma, chronic stress and professional burn-out, relationship distress, eating disorders, feelings of inadequacy, self doubt and personal failure, perfectionism, imposter syndrome, life transitions, grief, emotional regulation and in general, the difficulties of being human.

Issues such as anxiety, trauma and eating disorders can take over our lives and feel all consuming. I help clients separate themselves from the problems they struggle with and deepen their understanding of how problems influence them and how they can take back control. Clients are empowered to rediscover themselves, experience deep healing and get their lives back through powerful conversations and holistic approaches.

I work with teens and adults of all ages and specialize in supporting populations including young adults, lawyers, professionals and executives, athletes, performers and mothers.

Nothing is more rewarding to me than helping clients reclaim their lives and achieve their dreams and aspirations. I would be honored to support you on your journey.
Couples
Therapy
Create the relationship you desire

My work with couples and family relationships often involves rebuilding deeper connection, understanding and intimacy. I provide couples therapy that is validating of our human needs and vulnerabilities and that builds awareness and understanding of how we get stuck in our individual inner emotions, narratives and experiences and stuck in distress, dissatisfaction and negative interaction patterns in our relationships.

Communication is hard because there are deeper issues, needs, values and pain underneath it. When we can more deeply understand and connect with our partners, communication - as well as relationship satisfaction and fulfillment - improves. I help couples discover and incorporate new way of understanding and relating to each other, even when disagreement or conflict shows up. Our work may also include identifying relationship needs, values, goals and strengths, inviting accountability to each other and the relationship and facilitating repair of past and future hurts.

I work with couples from a compassionate, accepting and non-pathologizing approach that integrates narrative therapy with leading edge, empirically-supported Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and other modalities and interventions as appropriate. These approaches promote lasting change and facilitate strong, caring, supportive, emotionally intimate relationships. Relationships that reflect your values, enhance your lives and promote your resilience and well being.
FAMILY THERAPY
Connection is the heart of the family

There is nothing more painful for a parent than their child's suffering, behavioral difficulties or mental health challenges. We can feel devastated, lost and overwhelmed as parents when our love, care and best of intentions do not translate into the family life we imagined for ourselves or that we want for our children. I understand, and I am here to help you and your family relate to one another differently and get through difficult times together.

At its core, I provide family therapy that emphasizes strong, connected relationships that provide all family members with a safe and secure base from which to face the world and withstand all of life's difficulties.

I have found that a powerful aspect of family therapy is that it provides a unique and special space in which everyone has a voice. This experience facilitates parents and children listening, hearing, understanding and seeing one another in new and meaningful ways. Often these different ways of experiencing one other, and the moments of connection that occur in sessions, give rise to a new way forward that promotes togetherness and lasting healing and growth for all members of the family.

I support families in addressing conflict in a way that promotes closeness and understanding and facilitates repair of the ruptures that occur in relationships. Families begin to shift family dynamics in ways that foster cooperation and support parents' positive influence on their children, instead of reliance on power and control which often build resentment and rebelliousness. Increasing positive family interactions and reducing escalated conflict often involves various components including cultivating awareness and acceptance of our emotions and the emotions of those around us; developing the capacity for non-reactive, mindful and intentional ways of relating to each other, and parenting that reflects empathy, understanding, acceptance and validation. Relating to our children in these ways enhances feelings of love, connection and self-worth, reduces anger, withdrawal, rebelliousness and disconnection and contributes to the improvement of mental health problems and symptoms.
My work with families includes providing compassionate, non-pathologizing support to parents and families of individuals experiencing serious mental health challenges. Building or rebuilding strong, supportive, connected family relationships is an integral part of sustained recovery and is often experienced as life changing for everyone involved. I also regularly work alongside and support blended families, separating and divorcing families and co-parenting relationships.
EMDR
Deep healing of trauma and painful past experiences

EMDR therapy provides a powerful way to reduce the impact of past traumatic or psychologically distressing events on clients' wellbeing. EMDR addresses issues and supports healing at a deeper emotional, physical and neurobiological level through the reprocessing and desensitization of distressing events.
EMDR often provides healing and a level of change that is not achieved through talk therapy alone. Many clients experience a significant reduction in their current experience of distress or unresolved trauma as well as deeply enhanced feelings of personal worth and increased enjoyment of and engagement with life.

In addition to healing trauma and distressing past experiences, EMDR is broadly effective and can be an important adjunct to talk therapy in treating issues including eating disorders, anxiety, depression and low self esteem. EMDR can facilitate important shifts in experiences and emotions that have been stuck, allowing clients to more effectively address and make significant progress with longstanding issues. Clients are able to align body, cognitions, and emotion, enabling them to embody their preferred selves more deeply and more consistently.

My clients have described their experience with EMDR in life changing ways including feeling at peace, secure in who they are and as if a tremendous burden they have carried has been lifted. They are able to separate and feel emotional distance and relief from the distress of painful memories and events that have haunted them for years.

I completed my EMDR training through EMDR founder Francine Shapiro's highly-regarded EMDR Institute. The EMDR Institute provides the gold standard for EMDR therapy, reflecting best practices and fidelity to empirically supported approaches and protocols. The training process included case consultation with therapists trained and mentored by Francine Shapiro directly. This rigorous foundation best ensures reliable, effective, and evidence-based care to support your healing and growth.
